XP Home Pass Through to NT 4.0 domain

If you re-name an XP Home Edition Workgroup name to the
name of an NT 4.0 domain name, and create a local user
account to match with a domain account, including the
password, will you be able to pass-through authenticate
and map a drive to a share on the NT 4.0 server from the
XP Home pc ? Or do you absolutley need to upgrade to XP
Pro edition ?

The answer should be yes. However, the way you are
wording your question makes me think that the Domain
server is not located on the same LAN as the XP unit. IS
this true? If this is true, then there are more parts
involved in making this connection.

I have the same question/problem as the original person,
and I am on a different LAN (home) than the domain server
(I am a home based employee with my own home network - a
Win '98 laptop and an XP Home Edition laptop, than vpn's
into the corporate domain). I have worked with my IT
dept. to get my XP Home Edition able to see corporate
domain devices, but it cannot! There does not seem to be
a "DOMAIN" name option/profile to set up anywhere in XP
Home. Any help would be good. Another question: WHY CAN
MY OLDER, WIN '98 LAPTOP ACCESS THE CORPORATE LAN? IT
ALSO ONLY HAS A "WORKGROUP" option (ie: vs. domain).
Thanks, Bryan
