XP Home multiple user shutdown problem

My home computer is running Windows XP Home edition. i am the only one with
an administrators account all my kids have limited accounts with passwords.
The problem is how can i access their accounts to shut them down at the end
of the day if they have forgotten to log off without waking them up to get
them to login and shut them down. if i try to shutdown windows i get a
message to say that other users are logged on and data may be lost if you
shutdown or reboot.

Even if you disabled "Fast User Switching", you'd still face the issue of
an account left logged in. I would maybe use the Logoff Screen saver so
after a period of inactivity the profile is automatically closed and the PC
is left at the Welcome Screen.

1) leave it running and just shut off the monitor. I can't remember
the last time I
shut down a computer - it was probably before I bought my first
hard drive
(30Mb) almost 16 years ago.
2) shut it down without worrying. It's unlikely that they've logged
off with any
applications open that would cause any harm to them
3) as administrator, you can change their passwords and then use their
accounts to
do as you please.

Unless there is a program left open that is needed to be doing something
while another logs on, it's best to 'Log Off' instead of switch user
anyway.

The first login is still using a significant amount of system resources,
which will be very obvious when user 2 is trying to use the PC, especially
if the first login is using some file-sharing program.

I would institute a household rule that if you are done with the computer,
log off.
