XP Home log on issue

Hi,

When I try to log onto one of our PC's, the desk top
flashes up after I have clicked the user icon and then
imediatly logs off again. This also happens in safe mode
and I have tried reverting to the last know good boot as
well.

Any thoghts as to how to fix would be gratefully recieved
