Hello folks,

Running XP Home w/updates on dial-up and occasionally all
Internet apps cannot "see" modem!

Outlook returns a modem error, WS-FTP returns a "cache
full" error and browser returns a blank page (also no
source view), but no error.

When this happens I can succesfully ping and tracert from
a command line. IPCONFIG looks normal and all network &
tcp/ip properties look fine.

The above scenario may happen once every 1-3 days.

Reboot always solves the problem.

I'm a bit at a loss...suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Howard

Hi
Sounds like a problem I had. Is your client PC set to
obtain it's IP address automatically? If you run an
ipconfig in the command window, the top line (DNS) should
say mshome.net for XPHome. Try changing it to static
using this KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;309642&Product=winxp. This sorted my problem out. A
lot of people seem to be having problems with this so is
it a windows problem caused by an update?
