XP home - ICS

I have been looking through the postings, but could not find an answer to my
question:

Currently I am using a WinME PC to connect my wireless LAN to the internet.
The ME box has two NICs, one connects to the cable modem, the other to the
wireless router. Works fine. Except that I just had to reinstall ME and it
does not run well (too many error messages). So I was thinking to upgrade to
XP Home. Here are my questions:

1) Will I be able to replace my ME setup with XP Home and use internet
sharing in the same way?
2) I have a Sony notebook that came with XP Home and which I had to upgrade
to XP Pro. I actually had to buy the full version. So theoretically I should
have an XP home license available from the notebook. Is there a way to get
CDs for the license?

Thanks for your help.

1) yes

2) the xp home that came with the laptop is probably an OEM version and is
tied to that hardware(laptop), however you can reuse the original home
edition for the laptop and use the PRO version on the winMe computer.

Why are you using ICS if you have a router?

Sorry if I don't understand your configuration. Why are you not connecting
your router to the cable modem then connecting one computer with ethernet
and the other wireless? This way you will not need the wired computer on to
allow the wireless computer to connect to the Internet.

Thanks.

I won't be able to use XPHome on my laptop as the company needs it to be Pro.

Just curious: I bought a license for XP Home with the computer. Why can't I
get a set of CDs for XP Home? I have a license key that I could use (from the
laptop). How is it different if I use the license on a laptop or another PC?
In either case Microsoft will refuse to help me as the license key indicates
an OEM product.

Strange.

Because your XP home is probably on the hard disk of the laptop that is why
they didnt give you a cdrom with the oem version. (are you sure you dont
have some kind of restore disk cd rom?) You can of course ask your ventor
for a copy of the cd and see what they will say.

Apart from that....

When you try to activate the OEM version on another computer microsoft will
see
that the hardware is very different. This normally is not allowed, So you
will have to do the activation by phone.
You can of course try to lie to microsoft that you are using it on the same
computer the OEM was originally installed but you upgraded various hardware,
but im not sure that will work, and that they will believe you,
since I have never done it (it has just been discussed in these newsgroups).

the final solution is to buy an XP upgrade or full version for the Me
computer.
