XP Home freezing up

Hi; my step daughter has XP Home on her comp. The
computer is very slow and freezes up for long periods of
time when you click on the start button. I have ran
Norton Antivirus, Spybot, to check for a virus or
spyware. I have not seen anything like this on XP
before. Seems like the type of problems I used to see on
98 & Millenium. Anyone have any suggestions? Processor
& memory usage seems normal when checking.

Does the computer meet the XP requirements?
I can only think of adding more ram. It can speed it up a
bit. Depends what computer you have.
