XP Home Explorer hogging processor time.

Can anyone please tell me why even the simplest
activities on XP Home will take the EXPLORER.EXE process
to hog 95+% or the processsor time for unlimited
timescales?

Solutions are always welcome. I'm running a 2.4gig
machine with 500m ram.

I have a very similar problem. except mine is only 50%...
lucky me I guess...
Carey Frisch very kindly a few hours ago answered my
question on the subject and the only relevant thing I
could find is this:

but I'm running Service Pack 1... are you?..
