On shut down, XP attempts to close down a program
called "Win Min" which does not respond. Can't find the
program and need a fix. I'm running virus software with
latest definition files. Thanks.

This is coming from some spyware, which is why your av didn't pick it
up. Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.security.kolla.de and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to
update these programs before running them. It is best to run antivirus
and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode.

Go to Start > run > type in msconfig and enter
Go to Startup tab and try to isolate the win min item. Untick it. Trial and
error is needed.
Also check your Startup programs folder (remove any unknown programs)
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Restart to check.

Start> Run> type "Msconfig" ,OK. On the System
Configuration goto the startup tab, uncheck what you
don't want starting (MSupdate & winlogon, Apply> OK.
Next time you re-boot you'll get a warning, check the box
and ok.

MSupdate and winlogon are known to cause this behavior.

1.)Delete any unwanted favorites from IE, set your
homepage back to what it should be (if its changed).
2.)Drag msupdate and winlogon to the desktop as you will
find that you are unable to delete them from their
current location because they are currently in use.
3.)Reboot and delete them from the desktop.
4.)Reboot again, you should now be free of any win min
problems.

"Win Min" appears to be a component of some spyware. Remove spyware
