Hi,
do you have a HP-printer connected? I found the same service after
installing a HPPSC500 and if you search google with only HPZ12 you'll
find the following from Michael Ray:
I have an hp psc 2110 all-in-one printer. I'm very happy with the
printer, but have a pressing question I can't seem to find the answer
to anywhere.
I have 3pcs at home, one XP home box, a server 2003 box and my "uber"
XP Pro box. I spend most of my time on the Pro box as that's the one I
built especially for performance. Anyway, I have the three machines
connected to a USB hub which allows me to switch from one to the other
easily for printing. I'm having some problems on my XP Pro box. I
noticed in the log files that the system is attempting to start the
Pml Driver HPZ12 service repeatedly and since I don't have the printer
on and the port switched over (I'm guessing this is why) it is logging
about 30 attempts to connect. Also, I notice that 3 separate apps are
running, even though I'm not printing and not even connected to the
printer. The apps are hpobnz08.exe, hpoevm08.exe and hposts08.exe.
Combined, they are using over 15m of memory while running and I'd
REALLY like to know if they are all necessary and where I can tweak
them. The only print-related services I can see in the services
control panel are "PML Driver HPZ12" and the print spooler. I set the
PML Driver to "manual" already.
Please help, if you can. Surprisingly, I can't find this info online
and I frequent a number of great sites that have info. re: startup
process and windows.
and the answer from Domenic Mangani:
From what I know of HP printers everyone of those executables starting
with your computer are not required for the printers to function
properly, they are mostly system tray hogs such as tray or ink
moniter's and laserjet directors. As always you can remove them from
startup with MsConfig -> Startup -> Appropriate executable. Hope this
helps!
