For about 2 days I keep seeing the icon for windows
update progress (now up to 37%), how do I find out what
it is that is being installed in my computer? Why is it
taking so long to install. Note that I am a senior
citizen with no technical knowledge. thanks

I don't know of a way to determine what it is working on,
but it must be big. The current mammoth is Service Pack
2. The size varies according to the current state of your
system, but for mine it was 90 MB. Since auto-update is a
background process that checks every couple seconds to
see if you want to use the connection, on dial-up it
could take many days.

Is there perhaps a window hidden behind others, which is asking
you to accept a license agreement? If so, it's just waiting for
you.
