Xp Home, cannot install from '98

Hi, i am currently using windows 98, i bought xp to
upgrade and it goes through all the begining and than at
the part where it tells me that i don't have a previous
windows and must verify if i'm qualified to upgrade it
says it cannot find the cd or the cd is impaired, i have
reformated twice and reinstalled twice and still the same
thing comes up, someone please help, thank you

it wants you to put the windows 98 cd in.
