XP Home, as server?

I was reading other questions like this, but none were the same as mine.
I have a simple question, Is it possible, in XP HOME, for others to access
my computer from an internet browser? It would save a lot of time for posting
pictures, files, etc. on other servers.

Any help would be much appreciated!

The simple answer is yes, you can easily do this - probably. All you'd need
to do is load a Web server on your computer and open up access to the files
and folders you want to.

The complex answer is, who knows? Does your ISP allow you to run a server?
Do you realize that even if you can, in doing so you're pretty much opening
your entire system up to any passing hacker or cracker or vandal?

There's a reason folks put files on a server. Internet-facing servers are
highly secure and even if someone happens to break into it, your potential
damage is limited to only those files you have chosen to share.

Windows XP Home Edition can only handle five (5)
concurrent connections. You would need to use a
server operating system, such as Windows Server 2003.
Then you would need to notify your ISP and they will,
in-turn, charge a commercial rate....very expensive!

Hi

Within the 5 concurrent connections of WinXP Home, and taking into
consideration your ISP's TOS.

You can start something very simple that takes less then an hour to setup,
if you (as well as family and friends) find it useful, you can grow up into
Hosting service, or set a real Server software (like Windows2003) on you own
system with a business level DSL, or Cable Internet connection.

You need to set your system so it can be found on the Internet.

I wonder if running RDP on a PC would violate TOS for cable ISP's...
I use it for Instant Messaging (Since we're anot allowed to do it ont
he company network... I RDP in and do it from home!) Loophole.
