XP-HOME and win=-2000, WORKGROUP Networking - Help

I have been struggling to network 2 XP-HOME computers and
a WINDOWS-2000 computer to work as a workgroup behind a
cable-modem router.
All machines are using TCP/IP, DHCP, NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

All machines can access the outside world through the
cable modem + 4 port router, the 4 port router allocates
the address and isn't enabled for any filtering.

The DHCP allocates the right addresses,
192.168.1.1x, mask is set correctly to 255.255.255.0
on all machines. All machines have the correct gateway
addrss of 192.168.1.1

XP machines can ping all machine. But windows-2000 machine
can't ping the XP machines!!!
But I have the following additional symptoms
On XP machines I can see the workgroup but not it's
members, if I clik on the workgroup it says you don't have
the permissions !!!!

On the Windows-2000 machines I can all see XP members of
the workgrup(can't ping though !!!) but when I clik on
them, it says "\machine path can't be found"

Needless to say my networking isn't working. Any hints ?

Is ICF enabled on the XP machines?

I guess ICF must be enabled, I have read other posting on
this forum and it appears to be the only explanation for
the inability to ping from W2K to XP.

Don't know why XP machines will say you don't have rights
to manage the node though.
