Hi,

I am thinking about up-grading my processor to a AMD Athlon 64 bit but I was
wondering if Windows XP Home edition works ok on this processor, I am sure
this is probably a silly question but any help would help alot thank you.

P.S. hope all had a Merry Christmas and you all have a happy new year.

Works just fine! I have two AMD64 bit machines, one dual booting WinXp Home
and WinXP x64 and the other dual booting WinXP Pro and WinXP x64.

AMD's Athlon64 CPU supports 32-bit operating systems. You shouldn't
have any problems.

I built an Athlon-64 3200+ system with an Asus K8V-X motherboard a
few months ago, and Windows XP Pro has run flawlessly on it ever
since it was installed. So has everything else. Don't be afraid to
get away from Intel. It is just another bloated, money-gouging
corporation like Microsoft, that relies on apathy and
misinformation to keep its uninformed customers loyal. Intel has
been surpassed by AMD in desktop CPUs. There's no question about
this. AMD is now the leader, and Intel is playing catch-up.

Yes, it will run fine. The Athlon supports 32-bit code very well, so
XP will have no problem. Of course, it will not take advantage of the
Athlon's 64-bit abilities.
