XP help and support center

Gappa

Gday, this is a minor problem but any help would be
appreciated.

When I click The help and support link in the start menu
nothing happens. I checked the system processes in the
task manager and I can see a process called
helpctr.exe... but the help center doesnt load up.

I've downloaded the most recent windows update and am out
of ideas, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Here is the wise Mr. Kelly's advice, culled from a recent post:

Try: Start/Run/CMD: regsvr32 /u hhctrl.ocx.

I checked out the FAQ and have gotten to the point of
recieving this error

"Could not start the Help and Support Service on Local
Computer. Error 126: The specified module could not be
found"

I have tried almost everything on the FAQ except
for "Restore winhlp32.exe for XP or XPSP1 (Line 57)". So
i have downloaded the file but not sure what to do next.
I ran the files and both bout up a "open file" dialogue
box, If I am supposed to open a specific file which one?

Or perhaps I am supposed to copy the winhlp32.exe to a
specific folder, if so which one?

Thanks in advance

I've been accused of making sexist assumptions before on this forum,
but this is REALLY embarrassing...
Sorry!

Candace,
You should be, This newsgroup is a disaster anyway, as most of the new
posts are through the Help and Support link and most of the new users chose
the web based CDO format. We don't see any difference in sex here, most of
the regulars realize this and answer the same questions over and over,
because we realize this is probably the first experience the poster[ male or
female] has encountered with peer support newsgroups.
Glad to see you finally got OE setup.
Now you can get help and receive help much easier, but remember when you
post a reply to help someone, make sure you qualify the reply as a tested
fix, or an educated guess.

Sorry, my message was not meant to embarrass you. :( Typed messages are
genderless unless they specifically state the sex of the writer. Glad to see
you here. :)

Myself as well. Heck, I have been considered as one of the guys for so
long, I kinda like it (in its own term anyway!). <vbs>
