I have recently being encoutering a problem where I connect to the internet
as usual and the notifacation balloon appers as usual but at that point the
system completely crashes with the exception of being able to open 'My
documents' from the desktop, after about 3-5 mins the system comes back and
all the programs I had being clicking on over the time it was hung pop up,
ive tried a repair install and the problem still occoured. I have windows xp
home with SP2 and Norton antivirus with only Windows firewall. Be really
greatfull to hear from anyone whp has any possable soultions or if anyone has
had the same problem.

Just incase anyone else out there is having the same problem I found a
website forum after alot of searching with several people haveing this
problem, it also appears to effect other types of networking, not just
Dial-up internet. The common factors between the computers that were
experiencing this problem were, the Installation of additional Windows
components, Windows xp, and some version of Norton Antivirus, I myself
believe it is associated with the Installation of the additional components.
Unfortunatly simply uninstalling these components does not correct the
problem and a complete fresh re-install of Windows is required. Well i did
that and i no longer have a problem. If anyone has any reasons for this
problem it would be very interesting to hear from them.
