XP hangs at logoff

Hello,

I just built a new machine with XP Pro that hangs when a user logs off.
Article 328934 describes my problem exactly and says to get the all the
latest updates and SP2. I've got all that. It then says to contact Microsoft
for the specific hotfix. It specifically occurs when :

. You log on to the computer as one user.
. You switch to another user without logging off as the first user.
. You run a program in the context of the first user.
. You log off the computer as the second user

I would like contacting MS to be my dead last resort! Has anyone else had
this problem? Any clue how to fix?

Many thanx,

Rip

I got the hot fix and it wouldn't install because SP2 already has it. I
uninstalled SP2, recreated the offending accounts, reinstalled SP2 and
nothing. I wondered if my RAID 0/1 config had anything to do with it, so I
reconfigured my two 74GB Raptors from RAID Matrix to regular SATA drives and
that took care of the problem, but I want to keep my RAID 0/1 configuration.
I'm grasping for ideas here. Anybody have one?

Many thanx,

Rip

have u done a fresh installation or upgraded. pls if its possible then do a
fresh installation first take a backup of ur data. after installation SP2.
download a new version of Microsoft Baseline security Analizer. then scan ur
pc with that. if it shows some hotfixes download them & install.

It appears that the offending program is the free version on Zone Alarm. It
doesn't shut down properly when logging off. If I quit ZA manually before
logging off or uninstall it, XP doesn't hang up. Will research a little more
.. . .

Thanx,

I recently updated to ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6.0. Like yourself, I
have noted an increased XP Pro shutdown of about 20-30 seconds. I have
tried shutting down ZA, then shutting down XP Pro. Did not make any
difference. Still have the delayed shutdown issue.

I have posted an inquiry at Zonelabs.com's Users Forum. Hopefully a
suggestion or two will be provided.

If you find a solution, please post it.

Thx,

Al
