XP goes to Standby Mode immediately after boot?

Hi-

New install of XP on AMD Athlon 1000 Desktop with Biostar M7VIW mobo and WD
80Gig HD.

Installation of XP from CD went fine, but on first boot after installation
completed, as soon as the desktop starts to come up XP goes to Standby Mode.
I then have to powerfail to reboot, and it happens again. So, I never get
the desktop...

I have never seen this problem before, any thoughts?

If you could come up safe, at least you might see power settings.
Only other things in here / places for you to look, that control standby
are 0)Bios, 1)keyboard, 2)Remote (M.C.E.).
You might try coming up without the keyboard/mouse whatever peripherals
you have.
