XP Freezing

Hope someone can help me.
Running XP and things just freeze up on me.
When I shut down I get a programme not responding box that says:
Shelliconhiddenwindow
This programme is not responding.
Does anyone have any ideas

Open a command prompt, and run

chkdsk /r

and look in device manager for conflicts in some driver or device.
