Hey all,

Having a problem with XP. The machine boots up, POSTing
just fine. Loads XP Professional. When the screen turns
blue and before any of the account icons appear, the
computer locks up solid. I cannot reset or power off
manually.

Any ideas?

can you turn the pc off? by swithcig it off ? or pulling
out the power if so when in reboots do a safe mode boot up
then sytem restore back to antoher date when xp worked fine

Does it boot to Safe mode if you hit F8 as BIOS info goes to black to
get the menu? If so, suspect drivers, and maybe the video one. Next
step - Start - Run MSConfig.exe and on the Boot.ini page select
/BASEVIDEO - if it then boots normally (but to basic 800x600 screen,
then the video drivers are the problem

Next stage would be to Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot
the XP CD and, instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair.
Assume any password requested is blank, and TAB over. and run
CHKDSK /F C:
