xp freeze on high res

My XP freeze (usually in 15 mins) if I set display any
higher than color low (8 bit) & screen res 640x840.
Currently I'm running w/ selective startup in msconfig
where in BOOT.INI tab, I checked the /BASEVIDEO tab to
keep the low res of the display.
I want to install a game which need a higher resolution
but fear that XP will freeze. Ireally hate to shutdown
the computer from on/off button, fear that it will mess
up the computer.
So...any help out there??? Would really appreciate it =)
Thanks,
Athena

Hello!
Open Control Panel >Administrative Tools >Event Viewer- Here you look for
application error logs.
In case of a crash, open System Information >Tools > Dr.Watson >the crash
dump path:-
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr
Watson\user.dmp
Check your Video card.Update it.Also update your BIOS.

Hi..thanks for the reply.
I'm no computer wiz but...what should I dowith the crash
dump path in Dr. Watson? It was already set w/ the path
you mentioned. The video card is updated ()I just
downloaded the driver update. One more thing, how & why
should I update the BIOS?
Many more appreciation...
Athena

Hi!
Updating BIOS fixes hardware related problems.Therfore it also helps an OS
to run smoothly.
You may visit your m/ board manufacturer's site and download the BIOS
update; follow on screen instuctions.

often a result of the mouse driver and the video driver arguing over
which controls the pointer. It is easy to check on - Control Panel -
Display - Settings, Click Advanced, and on the Troubleshoot page reduce
the acceleration slider one notch or two. If one does it, there is
negligible loss of performance: if two are needed look for updated video
drivers from the maker's site.
