XP Forgets my Settings

Si Li

I have a Toshiba Portege laptop linked up to a D-Link
DSL504 ADSL router. Everytime I switch my laptop off,
Windows XP forgets my network settings, so I've got to:-

My Network Places -> Setup a Home or Small Office
Network -> next next blah blah

It is very inconvenient as I need to do this every single
time I boot up the computer. It didn't used to do this.

Can anyone shed light on the problem and tell me how to
fix it!

Thanks

Si

Si,

are you really just switching it off?

Si,

is that Windows XP Home or Professional? If Professional, what
type of user are you?

Try logging on as Administrator, then setting up the network.

You could try to create a new user and then try again, at least
for a test.

You could also try to remove all networking components, reboot,
then add them again and set up the network.

You could try to set up the network without using the wizard.

You should also use the repair procedures for the IP stack and
Winsock and check your computer for adware and viruses.

And check whether you have any third party client software
installed. Did any such software come with the ADSL router?
Software like that can cause this problem.
