XP Firewall Question

I have recently been told that users are unable to download files from a
legit business website as their Windows Firewall seems to block it, throwing
up the
error(s) "A connection with the server could not be established" or "The
connection with the server was reset"

With users here using Windows 2000 (who have no problems) and Windows XP
(the ones having the problem) I have nailed it down to the XP firewall.

But the question is how can I manage the firewall and allow full download
access?

I have contacted the companies website support desk who gave me the ports to
add in exceptions but this did not work. The only alternative is to turn off
the Windows Firewall which allows full access but this is not really an
option.

Any help is much appreciated.

What types of files are you attempting to download?
Checkout this article.
Under the heading "Internet Users Cannot Access My Game, Web, or Other
Server"
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/support/wftshoot.mspx

When configuring the XP-SP2 Firewall you should configure exceptions
through Windows Firewall Group Policy settings.
Hope this helps.

P.S. Clients must log off and log back in for these settings to take
effect.
