First error message - ntoskrnl missing
second message : Config\system, corrupt
When I go to reinstall it fails at repair and new install. System is
useless. Please help.

Youre doing something wrong. To reinstall xp,one must boot to xp cd,at xp cd
boot menu,select,install xp,delete the partition,create one,then xp formats
and
installs. At this point,xp could care less what is corrupt or missing
because its
going to format the hd.

Are you trying to Repair or Re Install?

As before you need to boot up on the XP CD. If it is not booting
on the CD check your BIOS to make sure the Boot Sequence starts
with the CD Rom.

I can't do either. The system reads the XPinstallation CD till I get the
option if I want to repair or install. Either option I choose, I get teh same
error message - Config\System file missing. I thought of formatting c:\drive
to get rid of any virus but can't access DOS prompt.
Thanks for your help!!!!!

tried that but I don't get to the screen where I see th epartition. It fails
right after I select either Repair ot ne install. Get the message
"Config\System file missing or corrupt.

I am at the tail end here - missed dialogue - however it attempting a repair
there are two options: Start with XP CD - ignore first offer to repair
(involves recovery console) instead proceed as if installing XP - if XP was
previously installed you will see a screen with the installed XP listed -
you will be given the option of repair or new install.
If the installation is not found a regular install will proceed.
Again, ignore first offer to repair.

That's how it should work but when I select reinstall XP, I get the blue
screen whichsays 'BAD_POOL_CALLER" and then nothing happens. The blue screen
remains on teh screen

You cannot install Windows from within windows. You must boot from the CD
and let the installation run from there.
