Hi all,

My windows XP PC has suddenly stated displaying the following error message
at startup (just prior to the "welcome" screen:

"Window's cannot load the user's profile, but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system. DETAIL - The configuration registry database
is corrupt"

Clicking OK, the system then boots and works much as normal (except my
destop graphic is missing). Does anyone have any idea what has caused this,
what it means, and what the remedy is. Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

Robin

Robin, it seems like your User Profile is corrupt. Since the system
works Ok check out Help and Support >System Administration>Passwords and
User Accounts. Look at Creating a new User Profile and deleting the Old
One.

Your user profile is corrupt. Follow the istructions in the link below
BUT note there is a step missing - AFTER you create the new user and
BEFORE you can copy the profile you MUST login as that new user one
time, otherwise there will be no destination folder to copy the profile to.

(I wish M$ would finally correct that dang article.)
