XP Error code 7 ntkrnlmp.exe cannot load

I have a HP Pavilion 521n. It came with XP installed. It
crashed last week and when I found my XP disk I have been
unable to install it. I downloaded the setup disks and
once it gets to disk 2 I get the following error message
ntkrnlmp.exe could not load. Setup cannot continue. If I
just boot my computer with nothing in the drives I get
Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

Now what???
