XP Dual Boot across two physical HDD - Help Please

G

Guest

have a HD with XP and various applications installed. I removed the drive
from the box, and replaced it with a new drive. I installed XP on the new
drive.

I would like to put the old drive back in as a slave, and at startup have a
choice as to which drive to boot from.

Is this possible and if so, how? After searching all morning, I can't seem
to find anything on this site that leads me in the right direction. Lot's of
info on 2 different operating systems dual booting, and on different
partitions on the same drive, but nothing which matches what I am trying to
accomplish.

Thanks,
Tara

Are both of your XP's installed form the same disc, if so you would be in violation of the Licensing
Agreement. If not you can try the bootcfg command. There are many references to this on Google to
help walk you through it.

David,

Thank you for your response.

Can't see how I would be in violation of the license agreement. Both disks
are in the same machine, and only one XP is being run at any given time.

I will check into the bootcfg command and advise of my findings.

Thanks again,

So why bother?

Youre not violating microsoft registration(s) by any means, youre still on
the
same pc,however, running 2 xp installations might get rather confusing once
both
are SP installed. What gains would thier be,youre best bet is to set up 2nd
drive
as storage to C: & put a page file on it,then some benifits to youre
hardware &
OS would/will be noticed...Try reading kb555223

If you do not wish to make any "software" changes upon boot you would need
to access your BIOS and set the boot drive as that secondary drive....or as
the new drive depending upon which one you wish to boot from.
