XP doesn't remember password

Logging in to my router, XP doesn't remeber password despite ticking the box
to tell it to do so
 
I had that same problem too and never solved it. It's as
though Windows associates passwords with online URLs, but
can't figure out a direct, non-Internet-connected one. I
just type it in, but rarely have need to get into the
router.
 
But I need to 'log on' to the router to use it. i.e. connect to other pc's or
connect to the internet via it, or am I doing the wrong thing?

Does the connection (r-click it in Network Connections - Properties)
have Client for Microsoft Networks installed and enabled? That is
needed for saving such passwords
 
CMN is installed and enabled
