XP doesn't recognize blank CD-R

Charlie

I have a DVS CD-RW which I have used to burn CD-RWs
successfully for past several years. Now want to burn CD-
Rs. Using Memorex 700 MB blanks(both CD-RW and CD-R).
When I insert a blank CD-RW, XP recognizes it as blank and
asks what I want to do. When I insert a blank CD-R, XP
fails to recognize it as being present, i.e., no action
taken by XP at all. Ahead Nero software and diagnostic
tools also fail to recognize a blank CD-R, but says the
drive is capable of writing both CD-RW and CD-R.

Any thoughts, suggestions, helpful hints?

1. Disable XP's crap builtin burning,
by going to control panel/admin tools/services,
then goto Imapi CD burning and disable it.

or

2. Get CD Creator 5 with updates,
or CD Creator 6. So, you can copy
files through My Computer.

or

3. What exactly do you want to put on it
data? music? If data you may need INCD
or CD Creator/DirectCD. BUT NOT both.

They dont like each other!

XP's burning doesnt support formatting
or packet-writing, so you'll have to use
either Nero or DirectCD, or other, if you want
to format CD's.
