XP doesn't ask to remember ID & PW for Certain Sites

I have a couple of web sites that I am registered with that each and
every time I visit, I have to type in my ID and Password because XP
never asks if I want to remember those two things like it does for
most all other sites. I can’t remember if I ever said “NO” to that
for these two specific sites thus the reason I always have to type
them in.

Is there a way to check and/or change the preference for certain sites
for XP to remember or at least ask me if I want XP to remember my ID
and Password for that specific site? By default, I do have XP set to
ask me if I want new ID’s and Passwords remembered.

Some sites handle this with cookies. So....

Q

From Internet explorer, Go to Tools/Internet Options/Content/ Autocomplete

This is from Windows XP: Specifies whether you want Internet Explorer to
prompt you to save a password when you enter it in a Web page. Then, when
you use a username entry you've used before, Internet Explorer will
automatically fill in the corresponding password if it has been saved.
If you clear this check box, no new passwords will be saved, and you will
need to type the password each time for any new user names and passwords
that have not previously been saved.
Note: For security reasons, Internet Explorer does not actually display or
list password entries; each character in a password box is represented by an
asterisk ( * ).

If you already have these options enabled and it doesn't ask, you could try
clearing passwords and having Win XP ask again if you would like to save. As
another post stated: some sites might depend on cookies.

A site can choose not to allow automatic full-in of password and/or ID. Are
you sure the sites you question have not disabled this function for security
reasons?

From Internet explorer, Go to Tools/Internet Options/Content/ Autocomplete

All this was enabled. Like I said, I had autocomplete working for all
but two sites that I use. I don't know why XP will not ask me if I
want to use autocomplete for signing onto those two sites unless I had
said no at some time in the past for that specific site which means it
will never again ask if you wish to autocomplete for that specific
site again.

Anyway, I did go into Tools/Internet Options/Content/ Autocomplete and
uncheck everything plus Clearing Forms and Clearing Passwords and then
rechecking everthing back on thinking this would reset something.
Well, I lost all autocomplete saves and am being asked by XP if I wish
to use autocomplete for every site I "sign" into now ***EXCEPT***
those same two sites again. So, all I can guess is that those two
sites make it where XP will not ask the user if they wish to use
autocomplete when entering one's ID and PW for those two sites. BTW,
one of those sites is where you sign in for Yahoo's Groups (ID & PW).
As another post stated: some sites might depend on cookies.

I didn't know that a site could set a cookie that would tell XP to NOT
do autocomplete on the specific site that set the specific cookie?????

Well, there you go Don, I had no idea that a site could control my
XP's autocomplete ability. Thus.... I assume that is what is going
on. I thought it was something I had done. As I mentioned before,
one of the sites where I get no autocomplete option is where you sign
into Yahoo's Groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/

In the case of your Yahoo link, when I click on Registered Users, the
sign-in window has a check box to remember me on this computer. So it does
not appear that Yahoo is blocking automatic sign-in. A site such as Yahoo
enables automatic sign-in by placing cookie on your computer. You may have
a bad cookie. Suggest you try the following:

Go to Internet Options and click on Delete Files to clear your Temporary
Internet Files.
The click on Settings and then click on View Files to see a list of your
cookies. Try deleting any from Yahoo.

Sites that disable automatic sign-in by not placing a cookie on your
computer are typically financial institutions and such where they do not
want anyone using your computer to have access to your account.
