XP doesnt allow anyone to logon

I noticed this a week ago on one of my XP computers, then I got to do what is
still unclear to me from safe mode, I resolved it. Today, it happened on a
different XP machine that is up-to-date (completely updated, even optional
components). I could not logon on that computer.

After a series of reboots andsafe mode stuff, I changed GP settings such as
Offline Files and disabled fast user switching, enabledclassic logon, then I
got on the PC using Administrator credentials (XP's default User account). I
noticed some changed: Some of my desktop icons were renamed and even my theme
was changed. I now begin to suspect some kind of viruses, worms, backdoor
stuff or even DDoS attacks on my Network. am I right?

As at last night, the PC was fully updated, I user NAV Professional 2004 and
it was up-to-date too. I left the PC at Windows logon Screen, and there it
was overnight. This morning I cannot logon.

What's the problem.

MORE SYMSTOMS ARE:
The PC reboots automatically on its own.
It changes settings.
It does alot of activities and does not respond to my commands until maybe
after 10min (Denail of Service Attack possibly)

Awwal,

To rule out a DoS attack, unplug the network cable from the system. Does
the problem go away? If it does then you are experiencing some sort of
network activity that is affecting the computer.

It sounds like you might be infected with either some adware, spyware or a
virus. Many of these types of programs will go in and redirect your
homepage for Internet Explorer (IE) or cause other "weird" experiences.

My first recommendation would be to ensure your anti-virus software is up
to date and to perform a full system scan of your computer.

My second recommendation be to download software to remove spyware. Some
of these include SpyBot Search and Destroy
(http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) or Adaware
(http://www.noadware.net/?hop=wintech). Install these, ensure they are
updated with the latest spyware/adware definitions and scan your system.
Follow their recommendations for removing certain items they find.

Next, if you are able to access the WWW after cleaning the system, ensure
that you are up to date with all Microsoft security updates. This can be
done through the Windows Update feature, by opening IE, going to Tools ->
Windows Updates. Make sure that you enable pop-ups on this page if you
have a pop-up blocker.

Best regards,
Blane Clark
