XP Display Properties enquiry

I've found that the 'background' box in 'Desktop' is full of items I need to
delete, as well as the default wallpapers. I haven't a clue how they got
there. Could anyone tell me how to go about getting rid of the ones I don't
want? Thanks in anticipation.
 
Thanks for your reply. They were in My Pictures. I experimented with moving
the files involved, to a different place and that worked. Hadn't a clue how
the dozens of pictures arrived in the display properties. thanks David
