In XP, it's called chkdsk and is a command line utility. Go to start/Run and
cmd and press OK. In the command box, type chkdsk /? to see all of the
available switches.
Typical command is chkdsk /f to have chkdsk check the drive and fix any
errors that may be found. Type this command in and press ENTER. The chkdsk
will run the next time you boot the system.
Right click on the drive you wish to check using Explorer
and select properties. Then select the tools tab and you
will see the option to check the disk and defrag it. Hope
it sorts your problem out.
