XP disabling network cards after rebooting

We are experciencing an ongoing issue with several different types and
models of pc's where XP Pros with SP1 is rebooted and the
network card is disabled. Renabling the card takes care of the issue
and it may not occur again after days or weeks of rebooting.
It is worthy to note that the NIC WAS working and NOT disabled
before the pc is rebooted.

As stated above, this issue occurs with many different types of pc's and
NIC's. Because it so random we have been able to get an accurate assement
of why this occurs. We keep extremely detailed notes of
these occurances and have not found any common link.

Things we done/checked:

1) Installed.reinstalled the latest NIC drivers

2) Ensured that the NIC is enabled and removed it from the system tray to
prevent inadverdant disabling.

3)Checked event logs, no events pertaining to this issue.

4) All NIC's are on private and static ip addresses. (192.168.x.x,
10.43.x.x)

5) Reinstalled SP1 ( I know there is normally never a need for
this...however to rule out all possible problems)

6) Reinstalling is not an option as this issue is not bound to any specfic
pc or type of network card.

7) These very same types of pc's and NIC's work fine in NT WKSTN and
Win2000 pro/advanced server environments

8) All pc's are prepped identically with the same install options and
software. Also we have had different people with different cd's
to install the operating systems in order rule out errors during the install.

Our conclusion at this time points to a specfic issue with XP.
Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated

I have a similar situation. Besides the NIC is disabled. The system also runs really slow
Once I enable it the system runs a little better

It has XP SP1a. I do have several machines with this problem
