Hi all

I haven't seen much about this in the forums but lots of our users are
experiencing this problem.

For various reasons (maybe when you close an explorer window etc) all the
icons on the desktop dissappear and then reappear (refreashes) it can
sometimes take a few seconds and is driving some of our users nuts !!

Has anyone come accross this before or does anyone have a solution ??
Thanks for any help
best regards

You haven't said what video cards and monitors you have. I would update
the video card drivers from the mftr.'s website (or the OEM's website
if you have proprietary computers). Also check the monitor refresh rate
and resolution. If you want more specific help, post back to this
thread with necessary details about your hardware.

Hi Malke

Thanks for the reply, it's happening on a range of PCs the only common
factor is they all run XP Pro.

HP Workstation XW 4100 with a mitsubishi diamond pro 2070SB monitor, refresh
rate 85hz, latest graphics drivers (nvidia quatro 4 XGL)
Samsung X05 Laptop, laptop screen, intel extreme graphics (latest drivers)
And several HO D530s with HP 1705 TFT's

Any more ideas ?
Thanks for your help so far

Not a solution, but might give you a clue. What you are seeing sounds
like the classic description of Windows Explorer crashing. And it is
configured to restart it self once it crashes.

Unfortunately there seems to be few cases where this leaves behind any
little trail of breadcrumbs to tell you why it happened or what you
might be able to do about it. You can check the event logs but rarely
does anyone find any hint about this there.

Hi Don

Thanks for the reply, one thing to note, the task bar does not "Refreash"
only the desktop icons, but if I stop the explorer task then the taskbar
does dissappear, so I guess thats not it.

Had a look in event manager but as you said, there's not much to help in
there.
Thanks again
