Guy's,
i have a customer that has somehow changed the xp default font to wingdings
or something similar.
so instead of seeing english under icons on the desktop its all....*&%$#&
suff.
this go's for window headers and active windows font's etc.

I have booted into safe mode and have somehow gone into display properties
and changed the window fonts back to system default and the windows titles
etc are ok but everythinf else is still bad.

Any ideas?
thanks

Most welcome and good luck!

Added info:

This will change most of them. Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this
key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes

In the right pane, change the Font Name for: MS Shell Dlg and MS Shell
Dlg2.

Then right click the Desktop/Properties/Appearance/Advanced/
Icon and set the same Font Name there. Ok your way out, then reboot.

If you are needing any more help with the virus, post back and keep us
posted.

Hi Kelly,
thanks for the suggestion, i have tried antivirus and registry hack but no
luck.

When you install the fonts all seems to come back to normal but when you
start the pc the fonts have disappeared again you get the same issue, if i
goto search and search for *.ttf they all come up, i can select them and copy
to the font folder and they all come back. I did notice that they install
again but you rthen have multiple copies of the same font in the fonts folder.
I'd say a re-install of windows is the next thing to try then if no luck the
old format should do the job.

P.s.
I have tries, vet, mcafee, symantec and sophos anti virus on the pc and none
have come up with any virus or trojans. Another group said it must be a virus
but i think i have done enugh scans to rule this out.
