xp crashes when installing games

i am having loads of probs installing games with 2 or
more disks.
the first disk loads ok, then when it asks for second
disk it crashes.
i turned off autorun in regedit and it runs better but i
am now having problems again.
doom3 sims 2 loaded ok, counter strike cz won't run
second disk, and crashes, have to reset, and won't boot
into windows unless disk is removed from drive.
just bought final fantasy 11 and the first disk crashes.

its driving me round the bend lol. latest via, bios,
graphics drivers installed, nec dvd rw nd2500a latest
firmware, p4 3ghz 800fsb, asrock p4vt8+ mobo, 1.5gb
ddr400 ram, geforce fx5700.

any ideas will be greatly appreciated

Just a thought, try holding down the shift key when inserting the second
disk. Also is the CD drive shared? if so try turning off Sharing.
