After a Gateway update my pc locked up and I followed the
screen prompts and ended up with 2 xp operating systems.
Do I need to reformat the hard drive to reinstall xp?
Gateway says to reload using FAT 32 Partition. Will this
remove the NTFS partition that it uses now or will I wind
up with 3 XPs. on the drive?

Hi Terry,

Does at least one of hte installations work the way you want it to? If so,
there is no need to reinstall again. If niether work right, then you will
need to either reinstall or repair install one of them. Please post back
with what you would like to do for further instructions.

Rick, One hte installation works but the other one does
not. Why does Gateway want me to partition FAT32? NTFS is
supposed to be better. How do I get rid of the dual boot
screen at startup? Thanks Terry.

Hi Terry,

Boot to the one you wish to keep. Is it the one that comes up as the default
on the boot menu? If no, click start/run, and enter "msconfig". Go to the
boot.ini tab, click on the one that you want, then on "set as default".

Then, click "check all boot paths", it should prompt you to remove the
invalid one.

No idea why Gateway wants you to use FAT32, an NT-based system should be
using NTFS.
