Recently my wife's new computer and my son's year old
computer crashed to a blue text screen. I did not see this
or have a complete and accurate report of what the error
message said, but it was told to me that the message was
that some hardware had failed and had some new hardware or
peripheral been installed.
The specs on the computers...
son's Dell 2400 XP Home, SP2...Zone Alarm free, McAfee
A/V, all updates current, 2.4 GHz Celeron. Onboard graphics
and sound.
wife's Dell E510 XP MCE, SP2, ditto P4 3.0 GHz, 775 mount,
SATA drive. Onboard graphics [Intel 950] and Audigy sound
card with Firewire (nothing connected to Firewire port).

I'm running XP Pro, SP2 and same apps, no problems on this
machine, a home assembled Intel D845GBVL mobo and 1.7 GHz
Celeron.

Anybody have any info on this, is there a new bug?

Hi, Jim. If both computers with very different hardware experienced the
same problem, then what did they have in common? They are both Dells,
but the hardware is different. I have a vague recollection that some
people were experiencing blue screens from one of the recent Windows
Updates, but I haven't seen the problem on my own boxen or on any
clients' machines. Maybe this is an issue with Dells and it might be
worth calling their tech support (yeah, I know).

If you can get into Safe Mode (or Last Known Good Configuration if Safe
Mode doesn't work), try uninstalling all the recent Windows Updates and
then reinstalling them one at a time.

Thanks. fits my thoughts too about the issue. The systems
seem to be running properly after the blue screen and
reboot. I think I'll wait to see what happens. I was
hoping somebody had seen the problem and knew which update
was causing the problem and a quick fix.
If it happens again we'll try to get the full text of the
error message and numbers.
