On my native Active Directory domain, I have one XP Pro computer that does
not show up in "My Network Places" from any computer on the network,
including itself. This PC is a member of the domain and can otherwise
participate normally on the network. I have tried removing it from AD and
re-joining but that didn't help.

It also doesn't show up in "NET VIEW" from a command prompt, from other
computers or itself.

I did also notice that nothing is being shared, not even C$. Rebooting
does not seem to restore the C$ Administrative share.

Any ideas what is causing this behavior, what to check, etc?

Thanks!

Hi,
try:
NET STOP SERVER
NET START SERVER

Also check what do you have in you registry under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
\AutoShareServer

Jim,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

Matija,
Also check what do you have in you registry under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
\AutoShareServer
This had been changed by the user so I deleted all keys and imported from a
machine that is working normally.

Now I see the machine on the network but no shares, althouigh C$ and ADMIN$
are now being shared. If I try to connect to the PC I get

\\WS02 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
this computer.

I am a Domain Admin, and Domain Admins are part of the local Administrators
group. I checked the Local Security Policy and it is identical to that of a
machine that is working normally.

Any clues on the Logon Failure?

Thanks!

The user had the entire list of domain users included in "Deny Access to
this computer from the network" in his local security policy.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Sorry for the late response.
I'm glad that you worked everything out.
