XP CD UP TO DATE.

Hi,
There is a program to download that will update your XP cd. post sp3.

This pack is designed to bring a Windows XP CD with SP3 integrated fully up
to date with all of the latest hotfixes released by Microsoft since SP2's
release. It accomplishes this task via direct integration, where files on the
CD are directly overwritten by the updated files.

This may be useful if a PC needs to be reloaded with XP after a clean
install is needed after a "disaster" and many updates and fixes would be
required.

Has anyone used this program and is it safe and useful?

Regards

I did it slightly differently..

I downloaded the complete SP3 file - available from M/s

I found an article on the web about integrating the files into my
Windows CD contents.

Copied the Windows CD to a temporary folder on my HD and integrated the
files from there using the instructions on the web page. Burned the
result to CD.

No separate program needed.

Cannot remember where the article was located but a decent search engine
should find it...

And yes - the "integrated SP3" CD works OK. When reloading Windows XP
recently it performed as the original.

How can you seriously solicit opinions on a program which you don't name?

"There is a car that gets you places more quickly than walking. Is it any
good?"

I use nLite for what you're describing and am happy with it. That said, what
you're describing is confused - it talks about adding post-SP2 updates to an
SP3 CD:

a) You only need (the appropriate) post-SP3 patches
b) unless you're using a CD-RW, the actual files on the CD will *not* be
overwritten. You'll create a CD image which you have to burn to disc to get
a new CD.

*That* said, if you do have a disaster, you'd be better served with a
program that can create a disc image, such as Acronis True Image or Norton's
Ghost (for some reason, the former gets much more coverage in these groups):

- with a program such as you describe, you save time by achieving a fresh
XP install with up to date patches, but still have a lot of work ahead of
you tweaking settings, reinstalling apps, restoring data from backup, etc.

- with an imaging program, you will (much more quickly) get your PC back to
exactly how it was at the time you took the image - Windows installed and
patched, all programs installed, data in place, no more messing.

do a Google for slpstreaming...
I use the program called Autostreamer.
It combines SP3 with any old version of XP into an ISO file which you
then burn to a CD.
