xp can't find the hd

THIS A NEW BUILD AND OS INSTALL.
ABIT VT7 MOBO VIA-PT880 CHIPSET-
2.4 PRESCOTT CPU
BRAND X CD-RW
MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX 6L200MO SATA
1GB KINGSTON VALUE RAM
ENERMAX 431 PSU

I think I have the BIOS correct and the hd shows up on the post screen.
I did the F6 thing using the floppy that came with the hd and I tried
maxblast 4. I even tried a 98 boot disk and I get an NTLDR missing
error. Isn't the nt loader on the os install cd and not the boot
disk? Any thoughts on why xp can't see the hd are greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have the boot order set to SCSI first?

Now you've polluted that disk with 98 (dos?) you're going to have lots of
fun. Good luck.
One option is to find a friend with an XP setup & pop your drive in & format
it & then throw your B--------y 98 disk away & try again.

DURING the early stages of installing XP did you notice the screen that said
that if you have any 3RD Party Drivers to load (your motherboard's SATA
drivers) that you needed to press F6 and then insert the Floppy disk with
the SATA drivers on it?

Do you have the hard drive in Master Single mode? If it's not in the
correct mode, it won't show up properly. Check the instruction sheet
that came with the hard drive for the correct setting.

It's not a problem at all. You can remove and make partitions, reformat, or
anything else you like with the XP install CD.

A waste of needless hassle.

Did you even bother to read the OPs post?

Have you installed the motherboard updated drivers pack?

The OP used the Maxblast disk and the 98 boot disk, no mention of using the
SATA driver disk from the cd that came with the motherboard. If the OP
loads the SATA(RAID) controller drivers on a floppy and F6's in install
installs the drivers it should see the drive.

I read "I did the F6 thing using the floppy that came with the hd" as using
the sata drivers. Guess I didn't read the OPs post.
