XP cannot probe DRIVER.CAB to install devices

Anyone know why I have to extract the contents of driver.cab to a folder?

XP normally looks in this file automatically - but now it refuses to unless
the cab is extracted to a directory

Start - Run the line
regsvr32 cabview.dll
should fix the ability to open a cab as if it were a folder, and hence
should put the problem right
