XP cannot open .mp3 files written with Vista

I have a CD with some .mp3 files written to it under the Vista O/S. My own
computer is on Windows XP Home SP2. When I highlight the file names and do a
right mouse click to access the menu for copying the files to my hard disc,
the hour glass appears and my machine freezes - I cannot eject the CD nor
reboot the computer and I have to disconnect the power supply. Any solutions
please?

Panic over. I don't know what causes this problem, but I tried the disc
(Verbatim 8x-12x CD-RW) in the other drive on my computer for DVD discs, and
it behaved as one would expect, enabling me to copy the files to my hard
disk. Sorry to have wasted anyone's time :) .

You probably have one CD drive that is not able to read the High-Speed
CD-RWs you are using. These CDs use a different chemical composition than
regular CD-RWs and are not compatible with older CD burners. CD burners that
are compatible with High Speed CD-RWs usually have something to indicate
that stamped on the front panel. As a rule of thumb you can consider any
CD-RW that claims faster than 8x burning speed is a High Speed disc but that
should be indicated somewhere on the disc label anyway.
