XP BUG!!! with read-only floppy

Hi,
I've noticed strange behavior of XP Pro SP1 with read only floppy.
Insert read-only floppy and try to save any file. The error message
takes first character of the file name and shows it in the error
message as Disk 'character': Cannot save file... For example: If the
file name is say Blues.txt, it shows Disk B: Is write protected .....
Try saving as Glues.txt, it shows Disk G: Is write protected.

Is this behavior fixed in any patches?

Hi, does it really matter is what I'd ask. Anyway, tried it with my set-up
and, if it's any consolation, I get the same error....

Ok to me a read-only floppy meanes read-only.
that is to say i am read-only you are not going to write
to me but i could be wrong.

This is not an error. Write protect a floppy and it will not accept any
changes. Either editing an existing file or adding or deleting. To enable
any of these the 'write-protect' tab has to be lowered or removed.

Same error. Not only is this behavior present on floppy but same holds for
other types. I just tried it with my USB PenDrive and the same result.

Not that you got my attention, I tried this with a read-only file text on my
hard drive and even more bizarre - I got no error at all to indicate that
the file is read-only. Naturally, the file was not written to, but that
could be another bug......

LOL. I've been trying this with extended characters in the
file name and the behavior is consistent. My favorite so far
is "Disk ½: is write-protected."

I guess we'll have a bunch of post-SP2 fixes even before mid
'04.

Edward and all, the OP wasn't complaining about not being able to write to
the disk. The OP knew it was write protected. What he is saying is that it
is showing the first letter of the filename as the drive letter instead of
stating that "Disk A: Cannot save file... " as it should state. When I try
to copy like this I get the filename up to the extension instead of just the
first character. Works the same way in 2000 Pro.
