Hi.

I've got a similiar issue to some people who have posted before - my
computer refuses to boot Windows XP Pro SP2, giving me the options of Safe,
Last Settings etc. but upon choosing any of them, it gets to the "Windows XP"
screen before restarting. This has happened a hundred or so times. I've
followed a suggestion that was offered - a Repair Reinstallation - except, I
do not have access to the Admin password on the computer, therefore I can't
repair. Is there some way I can reset the Admin password, and then repair?

Thanks.

I disabled automatic restart on failure, and received this error message. Any
ideas on how to fix it?

"STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll"

Thanks. All help appreciated :)

Have you made any changes to your computer? Hardware or software? Consider
these first. possibly remove hardware. I "think" Recovery console and Repair
install are blocked by Admin password. Only clean install available.
try searchng MS KnowledgeBAse for error as well as typing error message into
Google search. You will get more info than you can imagine.
Example: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314474

The only thing I can think of is that I plugged in a USB portable thumbdrive
that strangely went to the "Add New Hardware" wizard instead of installing
itself in the background, as it normally does.

Thanks for the help - will keep trying.

You mentioned "Repair Install". There two variations. One uses "Recovery
Console". It requires a Admin password which for some reason you don't have.
The other actually "repairs" current window install w/o Admin password.
See http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm This should fix it.
Another way is just copy needed file from install cd.
