XP Backup Wizard

I run XP SP2 and IE7. I do a backup using the Wizard every month and I
thought all was well in that the removable flash drive always registers a new
..bkf each month, always a bit larger than the one before. Latest one just
over 30MB for My Docs and Settings. The flash drive is denoted on the PC as
either "E:\" or "Removable Disk[E:]". However, I am now worried as I have
discovered the Event Log on the PC and see that each time I do a backup it
registers the following error: Event ID 111 RSM could not load media in Drive
0 of library Ut163 USB2FlashStorage USB Device.

My concern is whether or not the .bkf would work in the event that I ever
needed to do a restore, or am I just wasting my time.

Have you turned on the backup verify option? Have you ever tried to restore
one inconsequential file from a backup just to see what happens?

Tried deleting some entries from Address Book then did full restore. Entries
not restored - the backup does not seem to contain the number of files it
said it had copied. Had same problem when I backed up to floppies. Help!
XP Wizard seems to copy files but not to be able to restore all of them.

Because creating backups is such a crucial event I choose to use good
software to do this. Rather than rely on XP's Backup program I use Acronis
TrueImage. It has never let me down.

Had you turned on "verify" for the backup? I cannot overstate how very
important that little step is.

I do not know if XP's backup program is able to restore files that are
already open so if the file that didn't get restored happened to be open at
the time of the restore...

Thanks to all for the replies. I'm now sorted.

1. Found a MS KB article which explained that ID 111 can be generated
harmlessly according to the particular manufacture of the flash drive being
used. It arises because a feature is not included in the spec. The flash
drive still works.

2. After much experimenting can now restore a backup. The secret is to go
to Advanced Mode, select Tools then Options and check "Always replace the
file on my computer". This ensures you get the version of the file included
in the .bkf. Just a pity they make it so difficult!
