XP and PALM device

I installed XP ( Clean Install ) , and hotsync won't sync with
the Desktop Program opened ( it reports some message about a USB
problem )
No probs if I sync with the desktop closed.
I emailed Palm support but still no solution
any ideas ? ( I have no other USB device attached )

Pentium 4 1.9 GHz + 512 MB RAM + XP Pro SP1
Palm m505

It is possible that your Palm software needs to be updated for XP
compatibility. Check the Palm website.
