Background: MS office Pro Ver: 12.0.6215.1000
XP pro SP2
Outlook connector for my Hotmail and other webmail
AVG for anti-virus
NOT an acer
Home built
When attempting to open outlook it immidiately shuts down and sends the
error report. What I've noticed is that it gets to about 83% on the send and
receive before shutting down. I have run the office diagnostic tool, searched
for updates, searched the knowledge base, and tried to google info from event
viewer with no leads.

Event viewer puts out these two things:

I am lost now and at the end of my abilities to troubleshoot. PLEASE HELP!!!

1. if you aren't sending the crash reports, do so. This will help MS
identify and fix frequent crashes.
2. did you delete the srs file? It's a hidden file found at C:\Documents
and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. Use Windows Search
to find the files (enable the advanced options to search all hidden files
and folders) or paste this line into the Windows Explorer Address bar:
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Outlook.srs 3KB is there. Is this a runtime error? or maybe a corrupted
msvcr.dll file? or something to do with .net framework?

So I'm in a very similar position: XP with SP2, Office 2003 with SP3 and use
Outlook connector to get to my msn.com email. I have over the last 2 months
had this occur now twice. The first time while I was building up the machine
and as I had just done an image hours before, I reimaged the HD and things
were back to normal. Now the msvcr80.dll failure is back. I have sent at
least 10 error reports in the last 3 days to MS with no responses. I have
tried removing the .srs file with no good results.

Error screen reads:
Appname Outlook.exe AppVer: 11.0.5510.0 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.1433 Offset: 00014c23

What other things can I try to get my outlook working once again short of
going back to the old image (over a month old now) and reinstalling software
and moving personal files back onto it.

Thanks, Michael

This afternoon I setup the Windows Live Hotmail Outlook Connector for a
client and experienced this same crash & resulting error message. Platform
is Windows XP Pro SP2, IE 6, Outlook 2003.

My guess is that the cause is a damaged Offline Folders file (.OST) for the
Hotmail account. Unfortunately the OST Integrity Check tool (SCANOST.EXE)
does not appear to recognize OSTs created by the Hotmail Outlook Connector.

Here are the steps I took to resolve the issue:

- Repaired the PST file using the Inbox Repair Tool (SCANPST.EXE).

- Removed the Hotmail account via the Tools -> Email Accounts... menu item.

- Setup the Hotmail account (again) via the Outlook Connector -> Add a New
Account... menu item.

This creates a new Offline Folder file (OST) for your Hotmail account.

Another technique might be to move or delete the relevant OST file while
Outlook is shut down. I haven't tried this method yet.
