XP and Office 2000

New install of XP.

I can open a file that has a long file name in office
2000. At the top of word, for instance, it has the short
file name, with the ~ and such. Then when I save the
file out, it keeps the short name, please help.
 
Try posting this to the office groups, sounds like there is an issue with
long file names being turned off.
 
I have multiple XP machines and none of them have this
behavior. Please help me get it back to normal.
